Amazon reviewer: "Rebecca Winters pens the perfect tear jerker Christmas Harlequin Romance, A PRINCE FOR CHRISTMAS. Out in time for the Holidays."
Romantic Times says "Rebecca Winters' trilogy THE HUSBAND FUND, starting with TO CATCH A GROOM, is a light-hearted, often funny story out in November. In book two, TO WIN HIS HEART, out in January, Luc is the ultimate 'classic' hero, brooding and bitter, so sunny Olivia is his ideal complement." Book three in March will feature Piper and Nic's story. Be watching for all three Harlequin Romances where exciting things happen when the Duchess triplets meet up with the aristocratic Varano cousins on the Riviera.
Her newest Super Romance is just around the corner in February 2005, SOMEBODY'S DAUGHTER.
Authors reveal the inspiration behind their latest releases.
Our Two Sons, January 2005 from Kathryn Shay
OUR TWO SONS came from my fascination with the Buffalo Bills summer training camp at St. John Fisher College. While visiting the camp with my son one summer, I was amazed at the transformation of the quiet, sleepy upstate New York campus into a huge, commercial affair. The grounds had been completely overrun by the camp: vendors, tents, parking lots, not to mention the new playing fields and a gorgeous new field house. Being a teacher myself, I began to wonder, "What does the faculty think of all this?"
I also have a love/hate relationship with sports. In high school and college, I loved to play them. In adulthood, I enjoyed watching them, but often felt, "What's the big deal here?" So it was easy for me to put myself in Dr. Jacelyn Ross's place. She definitely wonders the very same thing; after all, these guys are just playing games! Enter Mike Kingston, the ultimate jock. He's a star, makes scads of money, and now wants to teach in her department. She's conflicted when he turns out to be a nice guy and a wonderful father, not just an arrogant football player. Of course, we all know athletes train hard, are talented and many of them are nice guys. It just takes Jacey a while to figure this out. Me? I fell in love with Mike before the first chapter was finished. I hope you do too.
Nothing More to Lose, February 2005 from Kathryn Shay
Given my previous interest in firefighters, when 9/11 happened, I was strongly affected by loss of so many of America’s Bravest. And I began to wonder what happened to firefighters who survived that horrific event. The hero of NOTHING MORE TO LOSE was one of America's Bravest who ran into the Twin Towers on 9/11 and never walked out. For the entire book, he sits in his iron prison, a wheelchair. As I wrote his story, I cried. I didn't want him to be in that situation. I wanted him to be whole. I wanted him to have everything back that he'd lost in his attempt to do the most heroic of things—save others' lives at the expense of his own. It was so unfair! But I, along with Ian, had to come to terms with that fact that he'd never be what he was before that day and he needed to reinvent himself. As I became more resigned to this, so did he. As I became optimistic, so did he. Thank God. I was emotionally overwrought writing the first half of the book.
Since I'd never researched the topic of the fire department’s reaction to terrorism, I went back to my buddies at the Rochester, New York Fire Department and they were very willing to help. Rescue 11 invited me to ride with them again, and also had me attend some presentations. One snowy December night, they booted up the HazMat truck, took out all the instruments available to check for weapons of mass destruction at a site, showed my how to use them, and explained everything in detail so Ian could do the same in the one of his lessons. I also went back to the Fire Academy, which is exactly like the one in the book, and the HazMat guys there talked at length to me about the potential threats by terrorists and about what Ian might be going through as a disabled firefighter. They provided me with texts and let me attend a RIT training session, which turned out to be remarkably like the one Ian teaches. I truly had no idea what these brave men and women had added to their rescue responsibilities since that fateful day in September. I hope you all find it as interesting, and as eye opening, as I did.
Somebody's Daughter, February 2005/The Daughter's Return from Rebecca Winters
My home is only five minutes away from the home of Elizabeth Smart, the teen who was abducted from her home in the middle of the night, and was miraculously returned to them over a year later.
All of Salt Lake City went into mourning. Yellow ribbons were tied on trees and school fences throughout the valley. A pilot friend of mine and his wife did many searches on his free time looking for her. Young women and couples I knew, combed the hills and canyons behind the Smart home looking for any trace of her. Volunteers by the thousands got busy putting up flyers in every conceivable place to make people aware.
Night after night my family and I, along with millions of families throughout Utah, the US and overseas, prayed for that girl, for that family. The goodness of people united in a worthy cause was awesome to behold. To see Elizabeth returned to a family that never lost faith, filled every heart with joy.
It is because of her story I was inspired to write the following two Superromances, SOMEBODY’S DAUGHTER and THE DAUGHTER’S RETURN. Enjoy!
