Writing Prompts

If an ATM could be custom created for you what would it spew instead of money?

At the moment words.  I've written 5,086 words in the last 7 days, not counting blogs.  I'm falling behind my 1000 words a day goal, but every one of them came easier than finding a topic for today's blog.

So I thought I'd get creative and steal one from the web.  No, not someone else's blog, but a topic.  I once read a blog about coming up with things to blog about and went in search of something similar.

My Google search for "writing topics" yielded a variety of links, but it was the one for creative writing prompts that caught my attention.

Usually, these sites have a ready list of writing prompts, but this list was made up of numbers and you had to hover over the number to see the prompt.  I picked three at random, okay, I may have hovered and moved on without reading the longs ones to come up with my picks.

Free write for 3 minutes on this clichè "Back to Square One."

I love clichè this should be easy...

Because I consider myself a work in progress every day is a fresh start.  I try not to beat myself up too badly when I don't reach my goals.  I simply set new goals for a new day and it's back to square one for me.

This next one caught my eye as fun.

Imagine your life is now a book.   In 100 words, write the blurb for it.

Talented writer Rogenna Brewer is determine to make her living as an author.  She'll use every connection she has (and she has plenty), any wile (feminine or otherwise) and her substantial strength of will to make word count happen.

Her rusty Muse is equally determined to keep her out of her writing chair.  Will leaving her day job to write full-time spell financial ruin?  Or is she writer enough to take everything her Muse doles out and more...

The above is a parody of one of my Superromance backcover blurbs.

Now it's your turn!!!   Choose one of the three prompts above, or choose your own at Creative Writing Prompts and have fun with it in the comments.

Email me the book title I parodied and I'll enter you in my monthly drawing for a $10. amazon.com gift card.  And don't forget to enter our drawing for a Super Six Pack while you're here.  Click on the link in the sidebar or go directly to the contest page.

Isn't it wonderful that you can find all manner of things on the web. I have to be careful that I don't spend all day on it.

I'd love an ATM that would spew reassurance that I am making a difference in my small corner of the world.

Rogenna this is so funny! I giggled as I looked at the prompts. The first one I picked was a quote from Sylvia Plath. Does this mean I have some mental issues to deal with? Of course! I'm a writer. You've motivated me to keep pushing through the word counts, and appreciate whatever the number is each day.

I'd bet you are making a difference, Kaelee :)

That's where I'm at, too, Geri. A thousand words a day is nice--an hour, even better--but progress is still progress.

My ATM would spew clean, folded and put away laundry. I was completely dismayed to find that my one pair of wool socks are not clean. It's 29F and I have yard duty this morning.

Congrats on the 5K words. I have no problem coming up with ideas. Sometimes the hard part is reining them in.

Ooh, Kristina, can I borrow your ATM :)

My ATM would spew menus & grocery lists that are complete & organized by aisle. If it could issue everything I need for the meal I need to prepare, that would be even better.

(Can you tell that tomorrow is grocery day here at Casa Chaos?)

Fun post, Rogenna! Love the ATM ideas so far *g*

I think I'd have an ATM that spewed out ideas of what my older daughter should wear each day. She always asks my advice and then never wears what I suggest :-)

Don't forget the coupons, Kris, to go with your perfectly organized list!!!

I don't know what it's like to have daughters, Beth, but I do know what it's like to be the mother of sons (see Kristina's post above)

Clean and coordinated is that too much to ask?

LOL, Love this blog Rogenna :) I'm not a writer, but I sure could use an ATM machine that would spew out reassurance and advice!

LOL--Snookie, "advice" immediately made me think of an ATM that looks like a Fortune Telling Machine....

My ATM would spew warm sunshine...
I could catch it in a bottle and sprinkle it around when I needed it... like today.
