Romantic Movie Quotes Quiz

by Darlene Gardner

Some quotes live on long after the movie ends. To test your romantic movie quote knowledge, take this simple quiz. Each quote is worth 15 points (five for identifying the movie, five for naming the actor who said the lines and five for naming the character.)

1. “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”

2. “I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her.”

3. “Shut up, just shut up. You had me at hello.”

4. “You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you.”

5. “This is true love. Do you think this happens every day?”

6. “You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you. That's where I'll be waiting.”

7. "Truth is, I gave my heart away along time ago, my whole heart, and I never really got it back."

8. "I would rather fight with you than make love to anyone else."

9. "Life is not the amount of breaths you make, it's the moments that take your breath away."

10. “You make me want to be a better man.”

To check your answers, click on the comments link and read the first comment from me. The highest possible score is 150, but 100 would be an impressive score. Those character names are toughies. So how did you do? (And, yes, I do know the book is always better than the movie!)

Answer Key

1. Ali MacGraw (Jennifer Cavalieri) Love Story. I’d also accept Ryan O’Neal (Oliver Barrett) because he repeats the quote at the end of the movie as a tribute to her.

2. Julia Roberts (Anna Scott) in Notting Hill

3. Renee Zellweger (Dorothy Boyd) in Jerry Maguire

4. Daniel Day Lewis (Hawkeye) in Last of the Mohicans

5. Cary Elwes (Westley) in The Princess Bride

6. Julia Roberts (Tinkerbell) in Hook

7. Reese Witherspoon (Melanie Smooter) in Sweet Home Alabama

8. Dermot Mulroney (Nick Mercer) in The Wedding Date

9. Will Smith (Alex “Hitch” Hitchens) in Hitch

10. Jack Nicholson (Melvin Udall) in As Good As It Gets

Wait...I need a word box with some choices....

Oh, darn. I clicked too soon. I knew some of them, but I had some wrong, too.

Fun little quiz. Now I must go off and think of some iconic quotations for my characters to say :)

Oh, man! I got about half, but after I got to #4 (Daniel Day Lewis in The Last of the Mohicans), none of the rst really mattered. That scene behind the waterfall is my all-time favorite scene. Gives me chills just thinking about it!
Thanks for the kick-start this morning;-)

ACK! Character names are the worst part of all. Actor names, not a problem, but the characters? SOOOO beyond my abilities :-)

I've got to confess that I didn't know most of the character names off the bat. I had to look them up on imdb. I agree about the Daniel Day Lewis quote. The Last of the Mohicans is such a violent movie but the romance is transcending.

Didn't know any of them :) Probably could have typed them into google to find out, but that would have been cheating. I remember hearing most of the lines, but I couldn't ever remember what movie or what character said them :)
