September Craziness

I love the month of September!  The weather is changing, and this year, it's absolutely lovely in the Chicago area, after a very hot summer.  September always feels like a new beginning – the kids are back in school, and theoretically, it should be less busy.

Not in our family.  September is one of our busiest months.  Along with the usual back-to-school activities, we also celebrate our twins' birthday, my husband's birthday, our anniversary and my nephew's birthday.  Other than our nephew's birthday, they're spaced out nicely – a week between each of them.  But it makes for a hectic and busy schedule, especially since our twins went off to college.  We like to visit them around their birthday, but since they went to school in completely opposite directions, we don't always make it.

I try to embrace the craziness, but sometimes I need to escape for a few hours.  My favorite way to do that?  Go hide somewhere with a good book.  I always have a huge stack of them to choose from.  However, choosing which book to read next can cause more stress!

What's your busiest month?  And what do you do to escape?  If you have a good 'busy month' story, please share it.  And because I'm always looking for fun ways to relax during September, I'll toss all the poster's names into a bowl and pick one to receive a copy of my March book, A Safe Place.  It's the first book in my Devereux family trilogy.  The second book, The Woman He Knows, is out this month.
Happy September!

I guess it feels like a new start here too – we’re out of winter and back outside!

But really September doesn’t have the same feeling at all in the Southern Hemisphere as it does in the north. The school year is thinking about winding down, not starting up, for example.

Almost everyone in my family has their birthdays between mid-December and early February, so we have that, Christmas, New Year and Ukrainian Christmas (in January) all packed in around the same time!

It sounds as though your Christmas is busier than my September. I can't imagine all those birthdays on top of the holidays. On the upside, I'd probably get a lot of books read while I was hiding!

December is the busiest month for us. My mom's birthday (she turns 86 this year:-)and of course the Christmas holidays with all the social events. And then immediately after Christmas, we head south to Florida for the winter. So I'm trying to get the Illinois house ready to be closed up and trying to remember what needs to be taken to Florida. Whew! Tires me out just thinking about it now;-)

September has been very busy at my house. My oldest started high school, complete with football and marching band. My youngest is in his last year of elementary school and for the second year I'm working at his school part time.

May seemes to be even busier. It's the last month of school and after the state testing, it seems like they have to cram all the extra stuff into that one month. Field trips, projects, and last year added 8th grade graduation activities. Plus, both my kids play baseball, so between the two of them we are at the ballpark at least six days a week.

We also have our wedding anniversary in May. We used to celebrate by going to San Francisco for the night and catching a Giants game. But then our kids started playing and it's harder to get away for a whole weekend. We'll have to go this year, though. It will be our 20th.

April is my busiest month. My customers are busy cramming as much into spring as they can so they can take lots of holidays during the summer months (I'm a self-employed typist) ... I have a couple of weekend badminton tournaments ... there are badminton club championships for three Tuesdays of the month (for ladies' singles, ladies' doubles with my daughter, and mixed doubles with my male partner of a few years now) - and I usually win most of those tournaments! ... I help organize our badminton banquet for the last Friday in April, oftentimes presenting awards, giving speeches, and reading my poem last year and singing my poem the year before (and I'd never even done karaoke before that, as I'm not much of a singer) ... our income taxes are due by the end of the month ... I have organized a street yard sale every year for the past 26 years, so there's lots of preliminary work before the actual sale the first Saturday in May ... we usually have company for a couple of weeks in May ... and I'm sure the list could go on and on even more. MUCH busier than Christmastime for me.

Busy months? Probably the summer months because of yard work.

My husband loves to do yard work. I'm so grateful.

Your April and May are much worse than my September. I prescribe lots of books.

Sounds like you really need that winter in Florida after your holiday season! You definately earn your warm winter

I remember those crazy May times, with sports and school programs. You definitely earn your summer.

Any time holidays are combined with family events is stressful. Good luck!

This year seems like every month is a busy month for me! Work is driving me crazy trying to get everything done! Then there's all the other things going on in my life, like my son going off to school.

December is a very busy month I always find. It's the preparations for Christmas of course. I LOVE IT.

I think October is our busiest month - football, festivals, Halloween and lots of school projects. October exhausts me...but Nov. gives me rest. Usually. I'm hoping the same is true this year.

Although August in Italy is a month when everything is closed & everyone goes on vacation, it's also quite busy for my family because we have a couple of birthdays, we have to pay all the bills before leaving, finish all the works... It's a lot of stress, but after that you know that no one will disturb you or call at least for 2 weeks because everyone is away.
