Well it's a bright and refreshed "hello" from me today! I'm just back at my desk after four days of vacation. Four days isn't that long, I know, but when you spend it entirely in the tropical climes of Singapore, by a gorgeous pool, and drinking more cocktails than you mother would approve of, it's more than enough. :)
| I'm really not kidding about the lazing around and drinking cocktails by the pool. |
I certainly did feel like a romance novel heroine -- probably from a Presents rather than a SuperRomance, but you never know! Perhaps my next book will have a way to ensure my hero and heroine spend time on a super-exclusive, super-gorgeous resort.
So shall I turn you green with envy and give you a few more snaps from my holiday photo album?
Okay, then.
You'll be glad to know it wasn't ALL lazing around and doing nothing but reading books and drinking ever-more exotic cocktails. We did manage to get out and about and see a few things.
Our resort was on the island of Sentosa, which is just a short cab-ride over a bridge from the main city of Singapore. (You can also catch a bus, a monorail or a cable car -- but more on that later!)
One of the first "tourist" stops we did on Sentosa was visiting the butterfly park. I wasn't so keen on the idea (butterflies really are just bugs with pretty wings as far as I'm concerned) but I'm glad I went. There were some gorgeous specimens fluttering around and it was quite peaceful to be among them.
Unfortunately the butterfly park also included the "insect kingdom" which housed tarantulas and all sorts of creepy crawly stuff that I usually only see in my nightmares. After the pretty butterflies, I just did a quick jog through that section with my head down and I'm glad to report I didn't see anything nasty.
The next day was a spa day, and after massages, foot baths, scrubs and facials, we headed for a dip in the therapeutic waterfall pool. I'm not quite sure what made it therapeutic, except that it was very cold, which was actually a nice thing in the steamy hot weather.
We also took a trip back into Singapore to visit one of the icon's of the city: Raffles. It is a stunning building that totally makes you feel part of a bygone era. We even scored a cocktail in the Long Bar where you eat peanuts and throw the shells on the floor.
And, finally, we did the cable car trip between the island and the mainland. It was quite good fun, except for one section where it got very windy and the car swayed around a bit. It was also billed as "The World's First Angry Birds Cable Car Ride!".
I'm not entirely sure if that's a good thing, because the wind rocking was more than enough without someone piffing angry birds at us. But they seemed to think it was a selling point, and who am I to argue, especially when they give me a big Angry Birds cushion to rest on during the trip?
That's about it from me -- now that the well is filled I must get seriously stuck into finishing book number three! In the meantime, because I'm feeling so rested, I'm in the mood to giveaway another copy of In His Eyes. Just tell me a little about your dream vacation and I'll chose a random person to get a signed copy.

What fun! And an Angry Birds cable ride? Now that IS different :)
Dream vacation includes a non-grumpy husband, two attentive non-whining children and three weeks in England. Would like to explore all the historical places and have high tea while staying somewhere posh. But most importantly, I want my family to be pleasant, agreeable and into the whole vacation like I am.
Fun post! :)
Your vacation sounds heavenly, Emmie! My dream vacation is in the south of France with my handsome hunky hero husband. It's my favorite place in the world--so far:-)
My fantasy vacation would be taking the Great Canadian Train Ride.
I love the Angry Bird pillow. My dream vacation is in the mountains of North Carolina at a bed and breakfast right on Lake Toxaway. It is relaxing and so beautiful there.
Your vacation sounds pretty near perfect.
I wouldn't mind repeating the best vacation we ever had. Just the four of us went to Sanibel Island. We swam and walked on the beach and collected shells. We read and watched movies at night or sometimes just sat on the porch and watch the waves. It was so fun and so relaxing.
Emmie, it sounds like your vacation was wonderful!!! I'm so with you on wanting to see butterflies but no insects ;-)
My dream vacation would be an Alaskan cruise. Sigh. It'll happen one day soon....
My dream vacation would be a villa in Italy, George Clooney's would be nice, but I'd settle for a little less.
My dream vacation would be anywhere with no internet service or cell service for at least 3 days! :) I really would like to visit New Zealand, I've been wanting to go for the last 30 yrs and haven't gotten there yet.
My dream vacation changes around a bit as I read about new places. I think the top of my list right now would be a trip to New Zealand. I could book into my distant cousin's B&B on the North Island and try to make it to the lake area I have read so much about on the South Island. Some friends of ours did a New Zealand trip a few years ago. They rented a camper van and had a ball. I'm not into camping all that much. I think B&B would be more interesting.
Forgot to add I have In His Eyes but I haven't yet read it.
Thanks Liz! I can quite understand how an agreeable family could make even the simplest of vacations a dream!
Pamela -- that sounds like an EXCELLENT dream holiday to me!!
Hi Ellen -- that Rocky Mountain train ride is absolutely on my bucket list. I love the photos I've seen of the amazing scenery as you go along.
Hi Tammy -- I have to say I was a little confused and bemused by the whole Angry Bird thing!
I love North Carolina, it's so beautiful. Your B&B sounds heavenly.
Julia there are plenty of holidays I'd like to repeat -- and I think this past one is one of them!
Mary -- it was quite a feat to avoid seeing any creepy crawlies and I was quite proud of myself for that. I kinda wanted to look, but I knew I'd just be giving myself images that would keep me awake later, so I restrained myself.
Summer, I think that's the best suggestion so far!! A Tuscan villa with George Clooney... sigh...
Hi Snookie -- I know what you mean!!
Yes, you should definitely get to NZ. I've been lucky enough to there for work a few times in the past few years and I love it.
Hi Kaelee -- another vote for NZ! Well, it is very special.
And thanks for buying In His Eyes -- I hope you enjoy reading it!
Seems like you had an amazing holiday. I would love to go on vacation to Scotland. Nature is so beautiful and "undisturbed" there. I can see myself walking the moors and relaxing for hours.
Singapore is very interesting place, the city is very clean. I love that Angry bird!
You have a great holiday:D
Hi Jo's Daughter -- I've been to Scotland, but it was winter and only a couple of days. I'd love to go back and explore properly.
Hi Cecilia -- thanks! Yes, Singapore is very clean and very safe. And very easy to get around in. It's a great city.
It all looks wonderful. My dream holiday would be to take a very leisurely motoring holiday through Europe & Great Britain.
seems you so enjoy your time in Singapore, Emmie :)
what a great pic =D
My dream vacation would be to go to Bhutan or to Tibet.
I always want to visit my sister and her family, 2000+ miles away. Whether we stay indoors and read, do jigsaw puzzles, and/or play board games OR we take day trips to museums, etc. doesn't matter, as long as we're together.
