We went to Disneyland!
Do you like amusement parks? I haven't been to one in a looong time,
until last week the Romance Writers of America had our annual
conference at a hotel in Anaheim, California.
Here's the ticket that got me into the park. This is Bambi (the first
movie I ever saw as a child). My roommate's ticket pictured Donald Duck. What is your favorite Disney character?
We had a young girl with us who wanted to visit the Disney princesses.
I was secretly pleased--now I had an excuse to pose with princesses,
too. Here I am with Belle. Do you have a favorite Disney princess?
We even rode a few rides. I screamed the whole way on the roller
coaster (then found out later that it was only the baby roller coaster,
not the big one--oops). The Pirates of the Caribbean water-ride was
fun, too. Here's the picture of Johnny Depp that greets you as you
(finally...the lines are long) step into the gate.
On Wednesday night we participated in the Literacy Autographing. It
was huge! At one point I stood up, turned around, and took this photo.
On Friday night we went to the Harlequin party. This is my longtime
writer friend Dani Collins (she just sold to Presents!), my
roommate Karen Foley (she writes for Blaze) and I wearing our Mickey
Mouse ears.
Here's a shot inside the Harlequin party. Award pins (for 25 books and
up--wow!) are being given out.
On Sunday we flew home across the country. Otis the cat was very
displeased that I left him (he slept on the suitcase the night before
my flight), but now that all is back to normal, he is happy again.
(Or, less cranky. He's a cat, after all.)
Now for the giveaway. (Yay!) Since I don't have a book out until
December, I'll be giving away a copy of Karen Foley's "Coming Up For
Air," her May 2012 Blaze. Karen was my best friend in childhood
(second and third grades), until her family moved away. We lost touch
but then met again at an RWA writer's meeting. Now she's my conference
roommate. Here she is at the Harlequin party. Her book cover is being
shown on the screen in the background.
Whew! Thanks for reading. I'll be back at 4 PM Eastern time to read
your comments. Take care!

Thanks Cathryn and Karen for a WONDERFUL conference experience. You two kept me grounded through the whole thing - I'm so thankful I was able to see you again Cathryn and meeting Karen was great. She's so lovely. I get a kick out of how you both say my name the same way - in your cute accents.
Great blog, Cathryn. Love the Jack Sparrow photo :)
It was wonderful meeting you and the other Super authors and getting to hang out a bit with you, Cathryn! My husband tells me that my 14 yr-old cat (who is usually very quiet) fussed the whole time I was gone. She slept on top of my feet last night!
Disneyland.. my dream place to go, hope someday :)
i love mermaid, cinderela, beauty and the beast, snow white :)
The Mickey Mouse ears are adorable!
My fave character is Goofy and my Princess - well she isn't a princess, but I like Mulan.
MarcieR
Jackie Smith....
Thanks for the photos...and post about your trip. I love reading about the conferences you writers attend! And would love to read Karen's book. I'm headed to Amazon to check on your book!

Cathryn,
I'm glad you had a great time. The Harlequin party looks like a blast.
I'm a Disneyland pro. I even share a birthday with Walt himself. We live in Northern California, and my husband has a work conference down there every summer, so last year we got to go with him and stayed at the Grand California Hotel. Nice.
I don't have a favorite ride. They are all great. The detail that goes into not just the ride, but the whole experience of while you're waiting in line is amazing.
If I had a favorite princess, it would be Belle. She loves to read, what more can I say?
Wow! what fun. Thank you for sharing your adventure. The photo of the book signing was so scarey. Talk about overload. The parties look like such fun.
My grandbaby will be going to Disneyland in Sept. He's just three so it will be magical for him. My fav Disney character is Jiminy Cricket. Fav princesses are Cinderella and Snow White.
Love the pics, Cathryn. So cool that you and Karen reconnected. I love Belle and Tangled made me remember how much I love Rapunzel.
It was so great to meet both you and Karen at Nationals! I missed out on Disney, but I love Beauty and the Beast (and pretty much anything Disney).
Don't worry about the drawing...I have Karen's book, but I just wanted to pop in and wave :)
Thank you for all the pictures. I've been reading a few posts and everyone seems to have had a great time. I love the picture of the literary signing. Maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to get to one.
I've never been to Disneyland or any big theme park.(I have been to our local amusement park, but it's quite small.)
I do love Disney movies. I love Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Hi ho! Hi ho! It's off to work we go! Got to love their enthusiasm.
How wonderful that you could meet up with a couple of friends and hopefully you made a few new ones as well.
I grew up in Southern California and I have been to Disneyland many times. Favorite character is Dumbo - Favorite princess is Belle.
Guess you didn't ride Space Mountain. The Peter Pan ride is fun, but I still like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean the best.
I already have Karen's book. So don't let me win.
Dani, it was fun, wasn't it? May there be many more Harlequin parties. :-)
Pamela, it was great meeting you! Otis was fussy while I was gone, too. (I got a nightly report while at conference, LOL!)
Eli, I hope you get to Disneyland, too. It was wonderful. My niece likes Snow White--she asked for a costume for Christmas, so I got her one at the Disney outlet.
Marcie, I love Goofy, too. Thanks on the Mickey Mouse ears--it's amazing how many different types are available in the park. I liked the "pirate" ears, but the black ears matched my dress better. :-)
Jackie, thank YOU for reading. This is our big conference for the year, and it's always very exciting to attend.
Kristina, I wish you'd been with us. We wouldn't have needed a map! You are so right about the lines. My favorite line was at the Haunted House, because they scared you in various rooms before you even got to the teacups. Very inventive.
Linda, I'm glad you reminded me about Jiminy Cricket--I like him, too. I hope your grandbaby has a wonderful time! I loved seeing all the strollers and the little kids with big grins on their faces. A very special place!
Jane, I hadn't heard of Tangled, so I just Googled it and watched the preview. Very fun! Thanks for telling me.
Rula, it was great to meet you! Here's to many more conferences! :-)
Kaelee, I did meet many new friends, and that was wonderful. I hope you get to a literacy signing (and/or a big theme park--so much fun!). The signing had more authors and books than I'd ever seen in one place. Amazing!
Tammy, the wait for Space Mountain was 75 minutes, or I would have gone there, too. (Was feeling brave after surviving the smaller roller coaster.) Ooh, I love Dumbo, too. Read the book as a child, but I need to watch his movie!
i love disneyland its such a big and a dreamland. donald duck. i love it.
someday i wanna to go there, thanks for share the picture.
Sounds like you all had a grand old time :)
