Looks like we're three for three in the memory sucking department *g* Okay, I didn't really forget it was my blog day Tuesday. You see, we went on a road trip down to Pittsburgh from Sunday to Tuesday and I knew I wouldn't have a chance to post/respond to my blog, but I was so crazed getting everything ready, I forgot to change my blog date. Sorry!
We had a great trip down to the Steel City, though. We caught a Pirates game, checked out the Console Center (where my daughter's beloved Penguins play) toured Heinz Field, rode the Duquesne Incline (very steep and very cool) and went to the zoo/aquarium. We walked a lot, ate a lot and had a great time. My favorite part? Going to the Barnes and Noble across the street from our hotel and browsing to my heart's content :-) So many books, so little time!
Next time we're going to check out the museums and some live entertainment. We'll also be sure to stop at Pamela's Diner, a local hot spot known for it's crepe style pancakes - delicious! And as some of you know, I love nothing more than a good breakfast *g*
When was your last road trip? What did you do/see? To make up for my memory lapse, I'll give away a copy of UNRAVELING THE PAST to one commenter!

Hi Beth, it sounds like you had a great trip!!! I'm with you on breakfast--I'd rather go out for breakfast than dinner!
The last road trip I took was a couple of years ago from Toronto to Columbus, OH, to accept an award from RT. I took one of my sisters with me. We'd never traveled together before and had a fabulous time!
She fell asleep on the trip home, though. She was the navigator. Just before she fell asleep, I asked, "Is this our exit?" She said, "No," fell asleep and we ended driving through Cleveland in rush hour. It turns out, that really was our exit ;-)
You know I have never been on a roadtrip, but always did think it would be fun. I loved the movie Eizabeth Town in wich the leading guy takes a roadtrip and has a great time.
My daughter won tickets for two anywhere in Canada by bus (when she was 21), so she asked if I would accompany her to visit my sister over 2000 miles away. Three days/two nights each way, and we'll never do it again. Promise.
There was an unplanned stop in the middle of the country at a major intersection (not at the side of the road but in the middle of the intersection); a man came onboard, scanned every rider closely, and eventually found a seat for himself and his unusually packed gym bag - so we thought we were being "bus jacked". A woman preferred standing for 12 hours straight, right behind the driver and facing us, until she finally took her meds and fell asleep sitting down. Another woman sat in front of us, reclined her seat until it was basically in my lap, and then rested her head on the seat bottom beside her (making me extremely uncomfortable unnecessarily); after much moving about, she finally moved to another seat across the aisle, but once *I* snapped her former seat back into its original position and she realized this, she moved back to said seat and pushed it back all the way again. Lots more incidents I'm trying to forget, but a month after we got home, someone was decapitated on the same exact bus in Northern Ontario. Yup. Trip from Hell.
LOL -- Beth. Sounds like a great trip. I haven't done a road trip in a long time. Not sure my old Mustang would make it. But I need ot get off my rumpous (okay, maybe I'm using that out of context) and find the time.
Mary, we had a great time!
What a road trip that must've been *g* Sorry you had an unexpected detour through Cleveland.
My son was my navigator (I drive in the city) and it worked out pretty well for us :-)
Hey, Jo's Daughter. I haven't seen that movie but I've heard good things about it. I love unexpected road trips - so many surprises in store!
Oh, Laney, how awful! I'm not big on bus tour/trips, probably because I like to be in control of where I go, when I stop, etc. Sorry you had such an awful experience.
Ro, I've found road trips much more enjoyable now that my kids are older. I give them permission to use their electronic devices (and headphones) when my husband and I want some peace and ban them when we want to chat *g*
It's been a year of traveling for me and it'll continue this fall/winter when my daughter and I check out some colleges. I love to travel but it sure messes up my writing schedule :-)
My boys are 9 and 14. Road trips get better every year. The older one got his own Kindle for 8th grade graduation and the younger one was content to listen to his iPod. We took three vehicles, with my mother and father in law in one, my brother and sister in law and thier two kids and us. On July 4th, my MIL asked American History trivia over the walki-talkie. My kids loved that.
We put 2694 miles on my new car. And we were able to get all the sunflower seeds out of the backseat.
Beth, glad you had a good trip! My last road trip was with two writers. We when "up north" Wisconsin to a conference. Had a great time. Cosmos were 4 bucks!
I currently have several notes, two alarms, a yard sign announcement, a guy popping out ot a cake and a western union telegram being delivered to me on Sunday afternoon (kidding about a few of those)to remind me I'm blogging on Monday.
Hi Beth,
Glad you had a good time.
My last road trip was to Malabar Farm in Lucas, Ohio. Bogey and Bacall were married there years ago.
My and I went on a mini road trip last spring. We drove from NYC to Toronto. We had a great time. Toronto reminds me a little of NYC and we also stopped by Niagara Falls.
Last road trip we took was in 2005. We drove an RV from Greely, CO, south then west over Wolf Creek Pass and back north through Durango and Grand Junction, then cut across the Rockies back to Greely It was not a fun trip due to some of the people traveling with us. The scenery was beautiful, but my ADHD son (10 at the time) was bored most of the time and fought with his cousin a lot, his cousin's mom was a real PITA. She read Nora Roberts from the best viewing seat in the RV and all of us CO visitors had to try and sight see through and around her. My DH and I said never again!
Kristina, how fun! Love the walkie-talkie idea *g*
LOL, Mary! Wish I would've had that guy popping out of a cake to remind me to switch days *g*
I can't believe you had $4 cosmos! I may have wanted to move there ;-)
BW, I've never heard of Malabar Farm! How cool that Bogey and Bacall were married there. We do love traveling through Ohio, though, and I'm already planning a road trip down to Columbus :-)
Jane, I'm fairly close to the Falls and love going there. They truly are spectacular! My son and I had a road trip up to Toronto shortly after I sold my first book to Harlequin but we didn't get to stay long. I'd love to go back and spend a few days exploring the city *g*
Snookie, so sorry you weren't able to enjoy that road trip more! That's one of the reasons my husband and I tend to shy away from traveling with extended family *g* Then again, all of our siblings live in the same town as us so we get together often enough, lol!
Hi, Beth! We don't often roadtrip, but may have one coming up later this summer down to southern California... love visiting friends, not crazy about the drive :) At least the road is mostly straight, which helps minimize the car-sickness (which I seem even MORE prone to these days)... if it gets too windy, I often have to insist on driving ;)
Hope you're having a great summer yourself!
I went on a road trip in April up the coast. It was just beautiful. Very relaxing.
Hi Beth,
my last trip was just few months ago, meeting with my friend (book lover's friend actually) and go to visit on town in my country to see mountain and lava. great trip, and i'm so happy :)
Fedora, I have issues with motion sickness, too, which is part of the reason I prefer to drive *g* Hope you have a great trip!
Sounds lovely, Marybelle!
Eli, it sounds as if you had a wonderful time *g*
Lovely road trip. Sounds like you had fun. We took our grandbaby on a short road trip (two hours) to see Thomas the Tank Engine, live. I thought he would fuss at being buckled in for so long and had a gazillion things to entertain him. But, he watched out the window the whole time watching the ocean, the rocks, trees and streams, keeping a running commentary about what he was seeing.
How fun, Linda! My kids were always chatty so car rides were very entertaining *g*
