Happy Birthday USA and to all who celebrate this Freedom Day, Have A Wonderful Day :)

In my country we will celebrate with "we said Panjat Pinang = so people will prepare gooddies (household appliances, tree nut, oil, rope) and then all the household hung on the tree and then the tree is smeared with oil. at the time of the celebration, each citizen was invited to climb the tree to get the equipment, so funny to see them to try to get it and other celebration is eating crackers suspended by ropes but may not use their hands and also jump jute. so many :)

Thanks, Rogenna! Makes me want to go to Bristol, Rhode Island, but maybe I'll just have a hot dog.

Happy 4th of July!

I love fruit salsa on a picnic.

Here's the recipe:

Mango Salsa
1 or 2 diced fresh Ataulfo mango(s)
3 Kiwis chopped, or 1 Cantaloupe diced
1 green onion
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded, minced (we use 2)
½ cup chopped cilantro
2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped (if you want)
¼ of a cup fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon sugar
Combine all ingredients and chill. Serve with grilled fish or chicken. ENJOY!

We leave out the onions and add diced green apple, red pepper, green pepper (maybe Anaheim)as well

Tastes great on hot dogs!

Good stuff, Ro!!

My son played Rutledge in the play 1776. It's a singing role and he had the audience so engaged when he did his solo. It was great fun to see. The best part of the play was realizing how history hung on one man's vote--and he voted with the majority so he wouldn't be singled out by history as the man who killed the Declaration of Independence.

Also, that's exactly how my late mother-in-law made her mac 'n cheese. A family fave.

Happy 4th of July everyone. Sorry I've been MIA for so long. Busy writing.

Best,
Deb

Kaelee, thanks for the recipe. Mango Salsa sounds yummy. Plus I love mangos and never know what to do with them :)

Mary, I'm with you. It's Brats on the grill tonight.

Good to see you here, Deb -- I had a fun fact regarding the play 1776 and didn't post it. Now I can't find it. But I remember the play won a Tony and ran for more than 1200 shows :)

Thanks, Karina. I imagine there's a fair amount of barbecuing on Waitangi Day, too. Only less hotdogs and more shimp?

my husband was born on the 4th of July too! We don't usually do anything special on the 4th though. This year we were on the road and never even baked him a cake! He was in 7th heaven though as we drove to Cabellas and he got all kinds of stuff :)
