Summertime Fun

Tomorrow morning I'm flying into NYC for BookExpo America. I'm only spending one night in the Big Apple but I'm really excited to be a part of BEA and back in NY. Best of all, I'll be seeing one of my dearest friends.

This trip also kicks off my summer traveling which will include several shorter trips to Buffalo, NY, a couple of day trips up to Erie to hit the beach at Presque Isle, two slightly longer jaunts to Pittsburgh for some shopping, a Pirates game, a tour of the Console Energy Center, a visit to the Pittsburgh Zoo and hopefully the Carnegie Museum of Art. There is also the possibility of several college visits with my older daughter in the Philly and/or DC area. Then in July, I'll be heading out to Anaheim for Romance Writer's of America's national conference.

We also have plans to hit the Drive-In movie theater at least twice, spend a week with my son's girlfriend when she comes up to visit and redecorate my younger daughter's room.

Oh, and in mid-August, the first book of my new series is due :-)

So it's looking to be a wildly fun and super busy summer at my house! I can't wait *g*

What are your plans for this summer? Are you doing any traveling? One commenter will win a copy of UNRAVELING THE PAST, the first book of The Truth about the Sullivans trilogy.

Summer? SUMMER? What’s that?!
Here in Australia it’s most definitely winter, and it’s the first one I’ve had in two years (having spent the last one in Europe, where it was summer).
I love New York! It’s pretty much at the top of my list of places to return to soon.

Plans? Usual daily walks or badminton play, reading of books (usually on said walks), scrapbooking of old photos (done till June/91 so far), catch up on mending pile, better organize my recipes, as well as reshingle garage and house, insulate garage, attend some weddings/showers, host a potluck for 50-75 people, and have my sis/her hubby visit for a couple of weeks. Easy schmeezy!
Thanks for sharing your busy plans with us, and have a great time in The Apple!!!

You know, not that much is going on this summer which is s very good thing. I need to have some down time. Other than going to Anaheim and doing All-stars in baseball, I'm going to write, water flowers, fish and sleep late. I'm thinking it sounds super good :)

Enjoy your travels and I hope to see you in CA!

My kids and I are off for the summer. We hope to have some unstructured time where the kids can play outside, maybe ride their bikes down to the park, see if the neighbor kids can come out and play.

We also have a lot going on. A road trip to the American Southwest. My nine year old decided he wanted to see Canyon De Chelly, so his Grandpa arranged a Navajo guided tour for all of us. We'll spend some time at our cabin in Northern California, too. Fishing, swimming, hiking around Mt. Shasta. We also have a camping trip with my husband's high school friends and all our kids. A family wedding and then school starts again. I won't make it to RWA this year, even though it's so close.

And my oldest has a couple of camps lined up. He's going to play Freshman Football. He had orientation the day after school got out and has voluntary camps and practices most of the summer. He also has a week-long band camp in July. Now I just need to find activities for the youngest.

My plans are to finish the book. And tile my backsplash in the kitchen. But the book comes first.

We have a busy summer planned, too. Houseguests next week, then a short camping trip followed by a trip to Chicago. In July I'll be heading to LA to visit oldest daughter and then on to Anaheim for RWA. My first Harlequin Super comes out in August, so I've got signings set up the first two weeks. In addition, we're trying to work in a week or two at our house in Florida and then Gettysburg and DC in early Sept. Whew--now I'm tired just reading this post back:-)

Hey, Sonya! Hope you have a mild winter. Right now it's overcast and chilly outside but hopefully the warm weather will be hitting us soon *g*

I love New York, too! I only wish I had more time there :-)

Laney, sounds as if you have quite the summer planned! Sounds like a lot of fun *g*

Eli, sounds like a wonderful journey!

LOL, Liz! That does sound super good - especially the sleeping late part :-)

My husband, son and younger daughter have plans to do a lot of fishing this summer. Older daughter and I prefer to stay home *g*

I'll look for you in CA!

Kristina, this sounds so fabulous! I hope you have a great time.

The last day of school here is Thursday. Older daughter works and she, along with her sister, are playing tennis this year so they'll have practices which should keep them busy.

Pamela, you have a jam-packed summer planned *g* Love the sound of all your travel - we've always wanted to go to Gettysburg - and am looking forward to your first Supers :-)

Wow, Beth, what a wonderful summer you have planned! Enjoy NY! And I'm jealous of your trip to Erie--we spent summers there with our grandparents and it's been a while since I've been back. Did you know Super authors Holly Jacobs and Susan Gable both live in Erie? My big summer plans include visiting my brother in San Diego and then heading north for my first RWA conference! I look forward to seeing you there! :-)

Beth, it sounds as if you are going to have a great summer! Mine is much less structured, but since there are no children at home, it's much easier to be spontaneous.

Have a ball in NY and all the other places you're going.

Beth Andrews said...

Hi, Kathy! Yes, I was lucky enough to have lunch with Holly and Susan in Erie a few years ago *g*

I think you'll have a great time at the conference :-)

Beth Andrews said...

Thanks, Mary! I'm looking forward to the trip but I'm also looking forward to some uninterrupted writing time at the hotel *g*

What wonderful holidays everyone has planned. Our big trip is to Squamish so grandbaby can ride on Thomas the Steam Tank Engine and grandpa can take pictures in the railroad museum of the colonial car like that his grandparents traveled across Canada in when they immigrated.

Have a great trip, Beth! Sounds like so much fun.

No plans here this summer! May have to have some surgery done but not going on vacation anywhere! There is always lots to do one the home front anyway.

Summer plans? Huh, just booked my son's flight to go off to UTI-Arizona for school on July 1. Registration is July 2 and school starts July 9. Booked flights for my husband and I too. Since he's only 17 we have to go to the school and sign stuff. Haven't booked our flights to come back yet though. Maybe we'll go see the Grand Canyon between registration and the school start date.

I wish it were Summer here. I am in the depths of Winter with the winds whistling up from the Antarctic. Today was bitterly cold. Hot chocolate, a suggly rug & a great book weather.

If it were Summer, I'd visit family on the coast.

I live in India. This summer, I'm heading home to Ireland for my first visit in 14 years along with my husband and four children. Can't wait to see everyone again and introduce my kids to everyone....we fly home on Saturday.

Beth, your summer travels sound great! And I'm looking forward to seeing you in Anaheim, too!

Other than Anaheim, we'll be staying close to home this summer. We returned this weekend from a dream trip--2+ weeks in Italy, Greece and Turkey. It was a wonderful 20th anniversary celebration.

We just put our boat in the water, so I guess I'll be sailing a fair amount this summer. I have a house full of guests expected later in August. But my BIG plans for the summer is to visit my first gandchild after she's born. I get a silly grin on my face every time I think of it!

Beth Andrews said...

Thank you all so much for sharing your plans with me! BEA was great and I loved being back in NYC. Honestly, if I could talk my husband into it, we'd go there several times a year but I'm not sure the Big Apple would be his 'thing' *g*
