Breakfast Favorites

by Beth

The other day, my youngest and I were out running errands and saw a sign at a local restaurant advertising Mother's Day Brunch, to which I commented: I love brunch.

Which, in turn, caused my fifteen-year-old to ask: Are you trying to tell me you want us to take you out for brunch for Mother's day?

I assured her I wasn't, that I was just declaring my great and abiding love for that meal which-is-not-really-a-real-meal.

Although if they did want to take me out, I wouldn't complain :-)

Over the past year or so I’ve come to love brunch, or technically breakfast, with a passion that is sort of frightening. Every Sunday I spend half of the morning making scones or muffins or omelets or waffles for my family and  I had my mother throw me a birthday brunch instead of birthday dinner party. My husband even took me out for breakfast for Valentine’s Day instead of doing the romantic dinner for two thing *g*

To celebrate my adoration for all things breakfast, I thought we’d do a quick Breakfast Q&A!

1. Coffee, tea or juice?
2. Pancakes, waffles or French toast?
3. Eggs – scrambled, fried or poached?
4. Bagel, English muffin or toast?
5. Bacon, sausage or ham?
6. Donut, danish or fresh fruit?
7. Muffin, scone or coffee cake?
8. Cereal – cold or hot?
9. Omelet or quiche?
10. Favorite Breakfast indulgence?

Can’t wait to read everyone’s answers…after I’ve eaten, of course :-)

I don’t really eat breakfast the way normal humans do. I’m just as likely to eat pasta as I am toast!

In another universe though, these would be my answers:
1. Coffee or tea. I haven’t had any fruit juice for nearly a decade, after spending a lot of time in India, where they add tablespoons and tablespoons of sugar to it. Made me sick!
2. Ummm, waffles aren’t really done in Australia. So probably pancakes.
3. Eggs are good in any form!
4. Definitely toast.
5. None. I can’t do meat in the morning!
6. I’m not into sweets, but maybe a doughnut if I had to choose.
7. What’s a coffee cake?!
8. Definitely hot. Those cold cereal eaters – a different species to me!
9. Omelette
10. Breakfast indulgence? Corn chips. I’m serious!

Beth, now you've done it. I'm hungry.

I love, love coffee and my favorite breakfast indulgence is bacon. I've always wondered how much bacon I could eat in one sitting, but...

I don't do gluten, but I often do potatoes in some fried form for breakfast.

Thanks for the tasty post!

Sonya, I know quite a few people who eat dinner leftovers for breakfast *g*

Coffee cake is not too sweet and usually has some sort of nuts and streusel (usually butter, flour and sugar). To me it's sort of like a sweet muffin but in a cake :-)

I agree about the eggs! I adore eggs!

Kaelee, I love Frittata but have only made it for dinner *g*

Toast with peanut butter and honey covered with banana slices.

Oh, this sounds so good, I might have to steal it for one of my new favorites :-)

Hey, Marcie! My youngest daughter loves Strawberry toaster strudels. I used to love brown sugar and cinnamon Pop Tarts. I actually have a recipe for homemade Pop Tarts that I'm hoping to try this summer *g*

Hi, Mary *g*

I don't eat a lot of wheat so when I go out, I'll have an omelet and fried potatoes - love the fried potatoes at our local bakery!

My husband loves bacon. Loves. It. I have to ration it out to make sure there's some left for the kids :-)

Tammy, I love French Toast, too - and had some yesterday *g*

Oh, I adore Eggs Benedict! They're my splurge when I travel :-)

I'm not a big breakfast fan. My usual weekday morning breakfast is a cup of coffee with half and half, a little sugar and my Super Authors blog.

Then I have a pint of milk with chocolate "Instant Breakfast" powder. It usually tides me over until lunch. If I eat cereal or toast or anything else quick like that I'm STARVING and jittery within a half an hour.

On vacation, I love bacon, scrambled eggs and home fries or hash browns. But I can't eat that every day.

LOL, Pamela! Well, I guess my husband will be moving to Kentucky ;-)

My CP and I were at a conference last weekend and she ordered her scrambled eggs dry. I like mine moist *g* Just like I like the yolks (in fried or poached) runny!

Hey, Ruth! When my husband worked nights, I always had a plate of dinner waiting for him but he liked to eat it for lunch *g* Then again, he eats cereal all the time - for breakfast and for snacks.

Hi, Cathryn! My daughter loves her gluten-free waffles with natural chunky peanut butter. The only problem is finding the waffles. Every other time we go to the store, they're out of stock!

I love hot chocolate. Actually, it's cool and rainy here today and I'm heading up to the airport to pick up my son and I'm thinking a hot chocolate might be just the thing to get me through the long drive home *g*

Kristina, I'm not hungry until I've been awake for at least an hour. On the weekends, I don't eat until I've been up for a couple of hours at least *g*

My breakfast is always the same: a cup of tea, freshly squeezed orange juice, a slice of toast with butter & vegemite & a small bowl of meusli with milk.

This is after my shower & some housework. I need to wake up first.

1. Juice
2. Pancakes, waffles or French toast? Yes, please.
3. Eggs – Pass.
4. English muffin
5. Bacon
6. Danish but only if it's from a real bakery.
7. Scone. Ditto.
8. Cereal – cold. (Milk optional.)
9. Omelet or quiche. No thank you.
10. Favorite Breakfast indulgence? When I was in college, I worked as a flagger on a state road crew. (I held the Stop sign at construction areas.) On rainy days, we'd drive around and pick up trash at rest areas. I never knew where I was because we'd go so far on back roads, etc. One time we stopped at a diner and I had a cinnamon roll, cut in half, buttered, and toasted on the grill. I've been trying to replicate that heaven ever since, but with little luck.

I love breakfast and quizzes, so thank you, Beth!

Marybelle, I love meusli and have been craving it lately. Must mix up a batch soon *g*

Scone. Ditto.

Ellen, in the summer I make blueberry scones using berries from the bushes outside my office window and they are so good. I'll have to whip up a batch and drive them up to you to see what you think *g*

That grilled cinnamon roll sounds fabulous! Now I'm seriously hungry :-)
