Spring Fever

I have a serious case of Spring Fever so this post promises to be short and sweet.

What is Spring Fever?

Springtime here in the Northern Hemisphere begins with the March Equinox.  The days get longer, the nights grow shorter and our hormones respond accordingly.

More sunlight means levels of melatonin fall, while levels of serotonin rise.  In other words, we're naturally less lethargic and happier in the spring.

Sperm counts go up just in time for Spring Break.  Yikes!

For the baseball fan it means the end of Spring Training and that first game of the season on Opening Day.

How do you celebrate Spring?

I'm celebrating with a birthday this week!

At the moment I'm laid up with a knee injury. On the plus side that's 9 uninterrupted writing days.

I usually look forward to Spring and basball season. The last few years in Northern California have had our seasons mixed up. We've had sunshine and spring feverish weather in January and February, but come March and April (and Opening Day of Little League) we've been rained out.

We joyfully made plans for Spring Break after consulting the Little League schedule- no games. So our first three games were rained out and, you guessed it, rescheduled for Spring Break. We were in Death Valley- where it was sunny enough to swim- and got the call that Tuesday's game was cancelled due to lack of players. Thursday's and Saturday's games were on.

Now. We have another rainy day. No practice. But will I get started on my Spring Cleaning? I don't think so.

I've been working in my perennial flower garden for the past two days! It looks like May with peonies about to burst open (which are usually around for Memorial Day!). I love this time of year because my garden is one of my very favorite places. It's a lot of work, but brings me much joy!

Rogenna, I plant brave little things that may well become the crisp and neglected by the middle of a hot July, but it's so much fun when the air begins to warm. I have several early plantings coming up and I'm almost ready to go out and wait beside the garden with my salad bowl, fork and a bottle of EV olive oil.

Ah, spring! Thanks for the cheery reminder.

I mow grass.

Not sure if that's a great thing, but needs to be done. Tho, the grass looks better when it isn't so ragged.

Happy Birthday, Rogenna!! And LOL on the sperm counts. Who knew?! I have a tradition every spring in which I castigate myself for forgetting to prune in the fall. And I remind my DH that the grass needs cutting. :-) I hope your knee is all better soon!

Kristina,

Our life revolved around little league baseball for years, and then high school baseball. It's no wonder we never had time to take the kids on a "real" vacation. We spent the spring and summer traveling for ball games.

I love perennials, Pam. They're a lot more understanding of my brown thumb than annuals. I throw some wildflower seeds in to the garden twice a year and have a lovely garden.

Mary, I'm attempting veggies for the first time since my $60 tomato fiasco. I started with a children's seed kit because I thought it would be hard to mess up. I have tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers doing very well indoors. We'll see how I do when it comes time to transplant them outdoors :)

LOL--too funny, Marcie.

Thank you, Kathy.

You should see my rose bush. Forgot to prune our white tea roses because they bloomed so late last year and now it's a dried rose bush.

Happy Birthday Rogenna, one day early!!! I think about Spring cleaning at the beginning of Spring. The operative word here is Think. After I'm done thinking about it, I'm to tired to start it. LOL

Hi, Ro. Sorry to hear about your injury but Yay-hay on the writing time.

We just got peppered (or should I say salted) with hail. Our winter was strange and now our spring is bipolar.

My favorite sign of Spring Fever when I lived in the mid-west was seeing fools with their convertible tops down while there was snow on the ground. I understood it if the sun was out, but it still looked crazy.

Spring means that I can walk outside without having to worry about snow and ice. I get to clean up the garden and rake the lawn. Have to so taxes as well so we are off to the accountant with the figures tomorrow( I'm from Canada so we have until the 30th of April but our accountant's deadline is tomorrow).

Happy Birthday Rogenna and I hope your knee feels better soon.

Spring also means that you can cook smelly foods and open the window to refresh the house. I love hearing the birds ~ the traffic not so much.

Hey, Deb. Thanks! LOL--Bipolar Spring. I think you just coined a new phrase. I like it :)

Yes, Kalee, that reminds me I need to throw open those windows! My husband is frying catfish.

Hugs on the knee injury, but a very Happy Birthday to you!

I had to chuckle at the thought of pollen and sperm being in sync ;)

I'm a spring cleaner and gardener!

Happy Birthday, Rogenna! Hugs on the knee injury.

We do spring clean but my favorite part about this season is that we get to walk outside again. Our town has some really nice walking/running trails that have way too much snow in the winter to get much use :-)

Hau'oli la hanau e Rogenna :)

Sperm count goes up! Yikes. Wonder if more babies are born in the winter months due to that phenomenom.

Anyone know how to get to the ehar super page now that ehar has changed their website? I've given up trying.

Happy Birthday! Sorry about your knee and hope your nine days pass quickly.
Spring is waking up to the robin's songs and planting the peas before it gets to warm for them. Spring is being outside, at last, with no jacket.
