by Beth#1 - Watch more hockey. Hey! I'm already doing this - I must be on the right track *g* My son is a huge hockey fan (go Penguins!) but doesn’t get to see the games in Nashville so we watch them and give him the play-by-play via texts.
#2 - Watch more movies. Over Christmas break I watched Crazy, Stupid Love, Captain America and Thor. I am soooo far behind on my movies it’s becoming embarrassing. More trips to the video store!
#3 - Catch up on all the television programs I've missed. Like Vampire Diaries. Burn Notice. White Collar. Modern Family. Okay, this list could seriously go on and on and on and...well...you get the idea. Suffice it to say, if I kept this resolution, I'd never write again.
#4 - Stop dancing in front of my children because they’re rotten and make fun of how I shake my groove thang.
#5 – Consider loaning out children to families in need of teenagers.
#6 - Stop being so mean and strict! Oh, sorry. That one is my older daughter's resolution for me.
#7 - Take more mental health days. Really, is this one a surprise?
#8 - Have fewer negative thoughts. This one is a bit more serious but I've read that we have 60,000 thoughts a day and that for most people, 80% of those thoughts are negative. Yikes! So I'm going to work on getting that percentage way down. After all, negative thoughts sure as heck never did me any good.
#9 - Stop eating celery. Eating celery has never done me any good either. I think I'll just skip it from now on.
#10 - Embrace new opportunities. Like writing characters outside of my comfort zone, tackling tough topics in my stories and trying every single item on the Chinese restaurant’s menu!
What about you? Any resolutions you should've made? For those who made resolutions, how it's going? Are you sticking with them or have they fallen a bit by the wayside? Today I’m giving away two copies of Tawny Weber’s SEX, LIES AND MIDNIGHT!

Love your resolutions. I should resolve to walk the dog even when it's raining. But my dog is scared of rain, thank goodness.
My big resolution is to NOT make resolutions. I decided long ago to just make life changes along the way. It works for me.
Just to continue to eat healthy and walk more-weather permitting.
LOL on kids resolutions!
Julie
Beth, I'm still laughing at #4! I think all mothers embarrass their children at some point with their dancing!
I made no formal resolutions, but signed up to attend a conference in March so am trying REALLY, REALLY hard to whittle down my waist so I can fit into all of my nice clothes. I have three healthy meals planned for today and will walk rain or shine. Honest!
I love your resolutions. I'm another one who's given up making them, but you've changed my mind.
I resolve to borrow other people's resolutions. That way, if I don't follow through, no problem. I'll just return them and let someone else feel guilty about them.
I'm not a mom but I thought it was required that sometime during momhood it was required that mom's embarrass the kids!!!!
I don't make resolutions because I know myself well enough to know I'd never keep them.
LOL, Beth, I enjoyed your resolutions! I especially liked the one about not eating celery--I think I'll borrow that but turn it into "brussel sprouts." Easiest resolution I'll ever make. :-) I've heard so many good things about Burn Notice--I really do need to check that out. I guess I should resolve to walk on the treadmill while I'm doing that! :-)
xI think I made a start to my resolution but it will take several years.
I made a resolution to eat more vegetables, but I gave myself an end date of 5 days in case I didn't like this plan. :) I did like how it made me feel, so I've extended it. So is that a goal or a resolution? And PS I don't eat celery either.
Beth--This was too funny. Just what I needed!
Why isn't more hockey available via streaming? We're ready to get rid of cable and HOCKEY is the last thing we can't source a different way. Grr. I do watch plenty of live hockey, though.
Saw Crazy Stupid Love over the break. I had low expectations and was SOO pleasantly surprised.
On that note...I resolve to watch more movies starring Ryan Gosling.
What? I admire his talent.
P.S. I clicked the "cool" box in honor of your dancing.
But my dog is scared of rain, thank goodness.
LOL, Linda! At least that saves you from making a resolution ;-)
That's a great way to think, Marybelle. As I said, I'm not big on making resolutions either *g*
Julie, one of my two major goals for the year is to walk more. I do use the treadmill during the bad winter months but it gives me a chance to catch up on my movie watching (hey, that's two resolutions in one!)
Great resolutions, Beth! Those are the kind that you can actually keep. Since I'm Pittsburgh born, I really liked the watch more Pens games. I'm trying to cut down on soft drinks and drink more green tea. Problem is, I don't like green tea very much! I'd also like to laugh more. I might be able to keep that one.
I made no formal resolutions, but signed up to attend a conference in March so am trying REALLY, REALLY hard to whittle down my waist so I can fit into all of my nice clothes
Mary, I have faith you can do it! Which conference are you going to? I'll be attending Desert Dreams in Arizona in April and I can't wait :-)
I don't usually make resolutions. I try to live each day being the best I can be.
Excellent resolutions, Beth! Watch more hockey is inspired. I also love the celery one. Celery has long been on my list of things to avoid, unless it is chopped up and put into something cooked. Then it adds excellent flavor.
My resolution is to read more. Lately I've been so caught up in writing, I haven't been filling the well.
I resolve to borrow other people's resolutions. That way, if I don't follow through, no problem. I'll just return them and let someone else feel guilty about them.
LOL, Kate! That is a perfect idea *g* I'll have to remember it for next year :-)
I thought it was required that sometime during momhood it was required that mom's embarrass the kids!!!!
So true, Ellen. And to be honest, I've embarrassed mine many, many times *g*
I really do need to check that out. I guess I should resolve to walk on the treadmill while I'm doing that! :-)
Kathy, that's my plan. My instant Netflix queue has way too many movies and TV shows in it. But I have a hard time picking which one I want to watch first and often end up watching whatever's on TV *g*
Maybe I should resolve to just start at the top of the list and work my way down.
think I made a start to my resolution but it will take several years
A start is great, JCP! I often think starting is the hardest part and it sounds like you're well on your way *g*
I made a resolution to eat more vegetables, but I gave myself an end date of 5 days in case I didn't like this plan. :)
Love that you put an end date on your resolution, Cathryn *g* I guess the reason I'm not very good with resolutions is they seem to be an all or nothing proposition whereas if I slip up on my way to achieving a goal, I can always get back on track :-)
That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
Why isn't more hockey available via streaming? We're ready to get rid of cable and HOCKEY is the last thing we can't source a different way. Grr. I do watch plenty of live hockey, though.
That questions is one my son asks all the time, Ellen. He is lucky that he's been able to attend a few of the Preds' games down there but I know he misses seeing his Pens.
I envy you your live hockey games! I don't envy you having to take care of hockey pads, though *g*
What? I admire his talent.
I admire his chest but I'm fickle like that. And the line where he admits how unhappy he is and is trying to buy it? *sigh*
P.S. I clicked the "cool" box in honor of your dancing
LOL! Thank you. Hey, you've seen me dance...maybe you should write my girls a letter telling them how wrong they are about my skills.
Darn kids, always mocking my 80s dance moves ;-)
ALL of the lines Ryan Gosling said in his scenes with Emma Stone were perfect. I wished I'd written them.
About the dancing...Maybe if you got out your Hammer Time 80's pants your moves would flow better? At the very least you'd know you were increasing the embarrassment quotient.
I love your resolution list. I really think your darling children should start video taping your dancing. I'd be willing to bribe them. Hmmm... maybe my resolution should be not to encourage naughtiness *ggg*
I resolve to stop hanging around on blogs and actually get something done.
Oops....
Well, I haven't started them yet so I haven't actually broken any .
Hey, Darlene! We had a tough weekend of rooting for our Pittsburgh teams as the Pens lost Saturday night and the Steelers' game was just...sad *g*
Problem is, I don't like green tea very much!
I hear you on this. I'm trying to drink more tea, too, and I really do't like tea. At all. Unless it's nice and sweet but I'm cutting back on sugar as well so I'm a bit of a pickle there *g*
That's a great philosophy, runner10 and something we should all strive toward *g*
Celery has long been on my list of things to avoid, unless it is chopped up and put into something cooked. Then it adds excellent flavor.
I agree, Jeannie. I've only recently (the last year or so) started cooking with celery and it does add to a lot of dishes.
Reading more is a great resolution! I need to do this. Over Christmas break I read a few books and it was so nice just to curl up with stories that I didn't have to figure out what happened next *G*
ALL of the lines Ryan Gosling said in his scenes with Emma Stone were perfect.
I couldn't agree more! That first meet he was so cheesy but adorable and then when she kissed him in the bar and he was just gobsmacked (new resolution: to use British slang words more often *g*) I watched their scenes together at least four times they were just so perfect :-)
Maybe if you got out your Hammer Time 80's pants your moves would flow better?
ROFL! If only I still had them! Of course, there is that picture floating around on Facebook to show them how cool I used to be. You know, before I had kids and they sucked the coolness right out of me ;-)
I really think your darling children should start video taping your dancing. I'd be willing to bribe them.
Please, all you'd have to do is ask them and they'd be all over that task for you *g* Then again, you've already seen me dance or have all those Harlequin parties meant nothing to you? I'm hurt *g*
maybe my resolution should be not to encourage naughtiness *ggg*
LOL! As if that could ever happen ;-)
I'm just glad that's not one of my resolutions - as you'll see by one of the gifts you get to open this weekend!
I resolve to stop hanging around on blogs and actually get something done.
Oops *g* Well, that obviously was a resolution that wasn't meant to be, Diana. I say let it go without guilt.
Love your cover and loved the excerpt on your website! Looks like a fabulous book :-)
Well, I haven't started them yet so I haven't actually broken any
Chey, I'm not sure if you've done this on purpose or not but it seems like a good plan to me *g*
I didn't have time to make resolutions this year (long personal story) so I recycled mine from last year.
I recently watched Crazy, Stupid Love and loved it! I'd avoided it because of bad reviews but was glad I finally gave in. Sweet and funny.
Great resolutions. I try not to make any but I do need to exercise more and try and loose some weight. So far I have managed to get three walks in this past week but not the weather is getting colder so I don't know how that is going to come out.
Great resolution list, Beth. I didn't do any this year. Maybe it's because I finished all the ones from last year--maybe not.
I don't make resolutions because I know I would never keep them. Having said that however, I have been trying to get more exercise and eat better. So far... niether one is working to well! Need to figure out how I can get my work done more efficiently so that I have more time for cooking and exercise and be able to do fun things!
I never make resolutions because I always break them..
But my one thing I like to try to stick to is, doing a kind deed or something nice for someone when I can. And try to be nicer person. Last year was hard for me and I let my temper get the better of me espeically with my family. They say you always hurt the one you love.
Just listening to Jimmy Buffet, as my husband is playing his videos. I need to motivate my husband to do this more often.
I haven't made any resolutions as I break them too quickly. However we have been trying to get out of the house for a walk each day. It's working pretty well even if a lot of it is mall walking because of the weather.
I don't have any kids of my own to embarrass but I've started on my great nieces and nephews now. It's so much fun. Teenage boys are so vulnerable.
I should probably eat more celery.
Ooh, I ate some celery this morning! Very crunchy and quite a strong taste for early on, but at Least I've had some veg today.
pageturner345@gmail.com
I'm with you on the resolutions vs. goals, Beth. Your resolutions are fun.
I too should eat more celery and less (fill in the blank). Not making that resolution. Just resolve to do better in the area of food consumption.
No resolutions or goals this year, but if I had to make one, I resolve to enjoy life more, to worry less and to take advantage of unexpected opportunities for fun.
Joan, I believe recycled resolutions are as good as brand spanking new *g*
We (husband, son, younger daughter and I) all enjoyed Crazy, Stupid Love which surprised me (son can be picky about his movies *g*) It was a nice way to kick off the New Year :-)
Good for you on the three walks, Virginia! It can be tough to stick with a schedule once the weather turns cold. Hope you get at least a few more days of milder temps!
LOL, Mary! Way to keep us guessing *g*
I have a few goals from last year that I'm still working on :-)
Need to figure out how I can get my work done more efficiently so that I have more time for cooking and exercise and be able to do fun things!
Hey, Snookie! So many things come down to finding the time, don't they? Hope you figure out what works for you!
But my one thing I like to try to stick to is, doing a kind deed or something nice for someone when I can. And try to be nicer person.
That's great, Kathleen! Something we should all strive to do *g*
Kaelee, I wish we had a mall close enough that I could do mall walking. I tend to stick to my treadmill in bad weather *g*
I should probably eat more celery.
I'm sorry, Rogenna, but I'm pretty sure that resolution has been banned in most countries. Maybe you could switch 'celery' to 'chocolate' or 'wine' or 'chocolate and wine'.
:-)
pageturner, I will have to get my veggies some other way *g* I did have spinach for supper - so good! But raw celery? No thanks. There's not enough peanut butter or ranch dressing in the world to help that go down :-)
Many I should have made, but I didn't, knowing I'd probably not keep them. So, in general, I just strive to be a better, more giving person. And, after reading yours, I'm giving up eating celery, too!
