Writing Tip of the Week

Pressed for time? Look for writing opportunities
in unusual situations.
~
My kids were into sports growing up. When I
took them to practices, I used to find a library or quiet
outdoor spot and write until it was time to drive them home.
I did some of my best writing in the passenger seat of my van
with the breeze flowing through my open windows while
my daughter’s soccer team practiced nearby.

I am so excited to have won this week's critique! Thank you and I'm looking forward to the feedback.

I love Dawn's creativity and resourcefulness. Many of my writing opportunities come to me while I'm drifting off to sleep. The difficult part is trying to remember it all the following morning. :)

Congrats, Lisa! Love Dawn's dedication. Recently, I've been writing while my daughter's at preschool--I write at my parent's house and the baby watches the wiggles with my dad. Not exactly stellar parenting . . . And I write at night after the baby sleeps, trying to make sure I get some too. I've found that in a pinch, emailing writing to myself works well--I can write short notes on my nook and email them back to myself to use later. I kept waiting for my life to slow down enough to let me write again, then just accepted that it wasn't going to happen!

Yay Lisa!

Great tip. I do the emailing writing to myself thing too, chanceofbooks. That works well.

My big thing is getting up earlier on work days so I have some dedicated writing time. Something I thought was impossible, as I already got up earlier than I wanted to for work, and was always exhausted.

It was slow going at first, I'd sit there for an hour with the laptop switched on but my brain switched off, lucky to get 300 words.

Somehow though, it's starting to work. The last few days I've managed around 1000. Oddly, I seem to be less tired. Definitely a whole lot less frustrated!

Congratulations Lisa! Isn't winning exciting! I used the contact page to ask about sending my 5 pages when I won the previous critique, but haven't had a reply yet. Resent a couple of days later--still no reply. I wonder if it's working.

Thank YOU all for being so great. I appreciate the congrats. Janet, I also inquired about how to submit my pages but haven't received a response yet. I will post here when I find out more.

Hi Sarah,
Does this apply to me as well? I submitted an inquiry about sending my pages but did not get a response, so I think my message did not go through.
Thank you!
Lisa

Its surprising how those little writing oppoprtunities add up over the course of a week. (Waiting at the bus stop, sitting in the doctor's waiting for an appointment, sitting at the hairdressers waiting for colour to take, waiting for a child to come out of school, babysitting (when the 'baby' sits down for 10 mins to watch their favourite Tv program or goes to sleep)
I'm training myself to always keep a notebook and pen in my bag.
