Writing Tip of the Week

When I'm struggling to engage with my writing for the day,
I imagine my way into the work. Lie down somewhere
comfortable and quiet and think about the scene
you want to write. Picture it like a movie in your head,
listen to the dialogue, imagine the way your
characters might move and what they might say
to each to each other. When you feel
as though you have a clear picture in your head,
hit the computer and dig into the scene.

I write in the evening and stop when it's A) time for bed or B) don't know where the next scene is going. As soon as my head hits the pillow the scene starts playing in my head.
Usually my 'movies' are silent movies. Sometimes I get dialogue, sometimes not.

Good advice. If I'm home alone, I sit at the kitchen table with a coffee and run each scene through in my head before I write it. I can't start without a script in my head.
